Yesterday we watched the Lord stoop to wash His disciples’ feet; today we listen to the words that explain His action.

Watch the companion video, then continue reading to examine the biblical testimony in its full context.
“If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” Jesus begins with something Peter must receive. Discipleship is not first a performance of humility; it begins with dependence on Jesus.
You Also Ought to Wash One Another’s Feet.
Jesus calls His action an example. The Lord and Teacher has taken the low place, so His followers cannot treat humble service as beneath them.
A Servant Is Not Greater Than His Master.
Jesus removes the excuse that status exempts someone from service. If He serves, those who call Him Lord cannot claim superiority to His pattern.
A New Commandment.
Jesus says, “Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” The command is new in its Christ-shaped measure: His own love defines what the disciples are to embody.
By This All People Will Know.
Jesus makes visible love among His disciples part of their public witness. The identifying mark He names here is not prestige but a community shaped by His self-giving love.
Tomorrow, consider what these words reveal about the identity and mission of the One who serves.
Consider this.
